Elementary Curriculum overview

Applying the California Common Core State Standards for English & Math and Next Generation Science Standards for Science, our curriculum is designed to enhance student abilities in core subjects and support them to become articulate and well-rounded throughout their education and in the competitive world beyond.

Our program adopts a multitude of resources to ensure key standard are accessible for all types of learners. Through teaching, learning and innovation, we intend for students to develop multiple literacies that support quality learning, personal growth and future readiness for holistic development.

City American School offers English, Math, Sciences, Social Sciences, Physical Education, Art, Language, and Music. 

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies follow the Ministry of Education curriculum.

English is the language of instructions in all subjects

Phonics: phonics reading helps students particularly the ESL learners; to associate the sound of the letters in the words they study in order to improve their reading skills. Academic year 2020-21, CAS will embark on a journey to provide education from KG 1 to Grade 5. The following year, CAS will introduce higher grade levels. 

 

ESL students (English as a Second Language)

  1. Literacy Program will be available to accelerate the English language skills of students in reading and writing.
  1. Response to intervention RTI: it is an approach to identify students with learning and behavior needs. The RTI process starts with high quality instruction and screening of all students.

Arabic Language and Islamic studies are obligatory courses for all Arab Students. 

Arabic B for non- Arabic nationality students:

Arabic Subject as a Second Language follows the MOE curriculum

Islamic Studies in English follows the MOE curriculum

Social Studies in English follows the MOE curriculum

 

CAS “Inclusion Department”:

At CAS, we have an Inclusion Department with qualified coordinator and a team to support students with learning difficulties. During the entrance test, a thorough brief will be provided to the concerned parents. 

French Language is available from grade one to grade five. 

In addition to this we have a balance of internal and external assessments. CAS is committed to achieving the UAE Vision 2021 – National Agenda Parameters, and as such participates in the following external assessments:

  • GL Cognitive Ability test – CAT 4
  • NWEA MAP (Northwest Evaluation Association Measures of Academic Progress)
  • IBT (Arabic)
  • TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study)
